Noodle Modules - Page Portlets

Search Noodle Help

This section is designed to help users with organizing portlets on a Page within Noodle. Portlets are used to provide a snapshot of Noodle content that is easy to monitor. Most applications have a portlet that will show recent changes. In most cases, adding a portlet is as simple as choosing the correct portlet for the desired application and then using the Server Explorer to choose the application the portlet will be linked to. Select one of the links below for configuration information and an example of each application's Portlet.

Address Book

The Address Book portlet shows recent entries in a chosen Address Book. Click Address Book in the Portlet list and configure the following options:

1 - Select an Address Book - The User must first choose an Address Book from which the portlet will get information.
2 - Display the X most recent items - This option allows the user to specify that entries shown on the portlet will be a specified number of the newest entries to be added.
3 - Display what's new in the last X hours - This option allows the user to specify that the portlet will show entries that have been added to the Address Book within a specified time.
4 - Display the following contact fields - The user can choose from Name, Company and Email to be displayed on this portlet.

Announcement

The Announcement portlet is exactly as the name suggests, a place on a page that can inform users of company events, birthdays or the hiring of new staff members. Use the Intra Editor to allow full HTML design.

Blog

The Blog Portlet allows for recent Blog entries to be displayed on a Portlet view Page. Select the portlet and it will be displayed as shown:

Calendar

The Calendar portlet gives users the opportunity to show recent calendar events, along with a snapshot of the calendar view. Select the portlet and the following options will be presented:

1 - Choose Calendar - This option allows the user to specify which calendar's events the portlet will use to populate it's view. Click on the 'Browser' button and select a calendar from the Noodle browser.
2 - Display Events for the current week - This radio button should be selected if the user wishes the portlet to show events for the current week.
3 - Display Events for the next X days - This radio button should be elected if the user wishes to specify the number of days from the current day from which the portlet will show events.
Users may use the portlet to navigate to a calendar directly to be able to view and add events.

Database

The Database portlet allows users to display, on a page, items that have been recently added to a database. Select the Database portlet and a new window will appear with the following options:

1 - Select a Data Manager - Click on the browser button to bring up the Noodle browser and select the database to be associated with this portlet.
2 - Display the X most recent items - This option allows the user to specify the number of entries to be displayed in the portlet.
3 - Display what's new in the last X hours - This option allows the users to grab entries from a database that have been added within a definable number of hours. Simply select the radio button then specify the time period in the textbox provided.

Users may click on an entry in the portlet to view the database entry.

Discussion Forum

The Discussion Forum Portlet links to a Forum Category and displays the Category Title, as well as the number of unread posts and how time since the last post.

Document

This portlet allows users to view a snapshot of documents that have been recently been added to a Folder. Click on the Folder portlet to bring up a new window where the following options will be given:

1 - Select a Document Manager - This option allows the user to specify the folder from which portlet information will be taken.
2 - Display the X most recent items - This option allows the user to specify that files shown on the portlet will be a specified number of the newest files to be added.
3 - Display what's new in the last X hours - This option allows the user to specify that the portlet will show files that have been added to the folder within a specified time.

Files will be displayed in a vertical list with an icon showing the type of file, the name of the file and the date it was added to the folder.

Merged Calendar

The Merged Calendar portlet allows users to display items from a Merged Calendar view. The user will select a Merged Calendar and options identical to the Calendar.

Photo Album

The Photo Album portlet allows users to show recent images that have been added to a Photo Album. Click on the Photo Album option from the list of portlets and configure the following options:

1 - Select an Image Manager - The User must first choose a Photo Album from which the portlet will get information.
2 - Display the X most recent items - This option allows the user to specify that files shown on the portlet will be a specified number of the newest files to be added.
3 - Display what's new in the last X hours - This option allows the user to specify that the portlet will show files that have been added to the Photo Album within a specified time.

Click on an entry in the portlet to view the image.

Poll

The Poll portlet allows users to place a poll directly on a page and have gather information from users about company issues. Select the portlet and configure it as follows:

1 - Poll Name - Enter the name of the Poll in this field. Example would be "Christmas Party Location"
2 - Poll Expires - This option allows the user to specify how long a poll will stay open before voting is locked. Select the Never radio button for the poll to never expire or use the On radio button, along with the drop-down boxes, to specify a date.
3 - Poll Question - Here, the user should enter the poll question.
4 - Response Option - This textbox allows the users to specify the available options for the poll. Enter the response option in the textbox provided and click the Add button to add it to the list of available responses which are shown in the listbox below.
5 - Options in List - This listbox contains all of the currently defined response options. The user may choose to remove any options they have already defined by selecting at and clicking Remove.

Click Save to complete the configuration of this portlet.

Question Manager

The Question Manager portlet is used to display recent Questions on a Portlet View Page. To place a Questions portlet on a page, select Questions's from the Portlet menu. In the new window, use the browse button to show the Server Browser - select the Question Manager to be associated with this portlet and then Save.

At the top of the Questions portlet there is also a textbox that will allow users to ask questions directly from the portlet. A great feature to save users more time!

Search

The search portlet gives users the chance to place a search option right on a page! The search portlet will search all subcontent of the page on which it is placed - if it is placed on the Company Headlines page, then all Noodle content will be searched. No extra configuration is required for this portlet.

Tags

The Tags portlet allows for recent and popular Tags to be shown on a page as well as providing a link to be able to search for content that has been 'Tagged'. To add a Tags portlet to a page, click the Add Portlet button and select Tags:

Tasks

The Task Manager Portlet displays latest Tasks from an associated Task Manager on a Page. To place a Tag portlet on a page, select Task's from the Portlet menu. In the new window, use the browse button to show the Server Browser - select the Task Manager to be associated with this portlet and then Save.

What's New?

The What's New Portlet allows for recent site activity to be monitored on a specific page and allows for greater control over security and access to new content. To place a What's New? Portlet on a page, simply select it from the Add Portlet menu.
