IntraNet Applications - Pages
|
Use Pages to assist in the organization of your IntraNet. Simply create Pages and structure them within your IntraNet in a way that reflects your company such as Sales, Production, Human Resources etc or by employee. You can then add more Pages and Applications to each Page. The Company Headlines can be used as a headline page for the department, informing members of important news. You may also add rich HTML content to the home page that can link to external and internal documents, important to IntraNet users.
Pages can contain as many Applications as you wish to place within them. You can also nest pages within pages to allow separation of files and applications within departments. This level of control allows Administrators to control exactly what content is available to users.
Select from the list below for specific Page instructions:
Creating a Page
To create a Page, click the 'Create' button, located at the top-left of your browser window. You will now be taken to a new page with various options for creating a new Page or Application:
Step 1. From the drop-down menu box select 'Page'.
Step 2. Choose a name for your new Page.
Step 3. You may now choose a location for your new page. The default location will be 'Company Headlines', however you may wish to place your page in a different location. Select 'Browse' to choose a new location:

Step 4. The user may also choose to provide a link to your new Page or application in the System Applications Toolbar or IntraNet Applications Toolbar.

Step 5. When you are satisfied, select 'Create' to finalize.
If the user wishes to add new applications or sub-pages to the new Page, simply create it using the same method as creating a Page, and at step 3, specify the Page as the destination.
Pages as HTML
Once a Page has been created, the user may now begin to add content. If you wish, you may choose to use the page as a simple web-page. This way you can use HTML and all other web-based languages and technologies to create a webpage that fits your IntraNet. This can be used to show articles and images in typical webpage fashion. If you wish to preserve the page as an HTML page, simply click the 'Edit' button adjacent to your page title which will bring up the IntraEditor application. You may then create a webpage as you would any other. Using multiple HTML pages allows you to create wiki-style sections in your IntraNet, allowing employees to update articles and information as required, which can be viewed by other IntraNet users.
In the top-right corner of your Page you should see a text link marked 'View Content' if you are currently viewing the Page as a Headline, or 'View Headline', if you are currently looking at your Page's contents.
Pages can be viewed in list format which displays all of the folders and applications it contains. This is a neat and practical way to ensure that all Applications and Files are easily accessible to IntraNet users.
Page Content View

Content View shows all items currently contained within the page and can be managed using the options at the top of the page, as shown above.
Page Headline View - Using Portals and Portlets

Alternatively, Pages can be organized into a dynamic and interactive interface (as shown above), that allows the user to fully customize their IntraNet. Combine a Headline view Page with IntraNet's built-in applications, along with your custom applications for a comfortable working environment.
Headline View can be chosen to show your HTML format page as either a webpage or, as shown, Applications within the page. In the example above, the user requires his calendar and recent contacts to be available and viewable at all times. As you can see, using portals, portlets and Pages is a fantastic way to present your IntraNet!
Pages Using Applications and Portlets
Pages can be fully customized to reflect your company, a department or even an employee! Keep colleagues up to date with the latest news or make files available for them to view or download.
In order to create portlet-based Headline page you should first enter the Settings area of the page. Select the 'Layout' tab to be presented with 8 options for laying out portals. Portals are containers that sit on a page and will allow the user to place applications into them for viewing.
It may be worthwhile to decide on the portlets you would like shown on your page before this point. This will allow the most appropriate layout type for the chosen portals to be selected.
When a Portlet has been chosen, click 'Save' to confirm your changes. At this point the user will be notified that the Headline Page will be converted to a Portal. Select 'OK' and the user will now be able to begin adding Portlets.
Adding Portlets to a Portal View
Selecting 'Portlet Settings' will allow you to manage which portlets are included in your page and how they will be arranged on your Page. In this case, the user would like to view the Accounting Calendar and Accounting Document Manager on the Accounting Page (wouldn't you know it).
In this case the following layout and setup has been used:

The user has chosen this setup as they would like to limit the space on the Page that is taken. The 1/2 column portal would ensure that the whole page is taken, therefore the portlets would be stretched.
Empty Containers that are above or to the left of containers with portals are effectively left out by the Page.

Containers #2 and #3 will NOT be stretched to cover the page.
In this case, Container #1 has been ignored by the browser as it is empty and Containers 2 and 3 have now been docked at the top of the page.
Adding Portlets
In the 'Portlet Settings' will see the containers that are currently set to appear on your Page. Underneath each will be a combo-box and a button marked 'Add'.
First of all select the type of Portlet you would like to add to your Page. Again, here it is helpful to know what Applications you would represented, as you must choose the portal that is appropriate for the type of Application. For example, if you wish to show recent files from a Document Manager on a page, you must add a Document Portlet onto your Page.
Select the type of portlet you wish to add to the Portal and click 'Add'. This will bring up a new window which will allow you to select which application you would like to add.

In this example, the Portlet is a Document Portlet. As the only Document Manager available to this user is Accounting Documents, that is the only one available to add.
